OK, this horse isn’t totally unresponsive, but she doesn’t tend to move easily from the leg. In this video Karen talks about how to add pressure to help sticky horses have more responsiveness in the moment while still staying fair and not escalating to harmful pressure. This discussion refers to the other video this month: Feb 2024 Frequent Transitions where Karen is using a small plastic bag on the end of her stick to cause Solana to be more immediately responsive. She’ll explain how to use that in a conscious and effective way. As Karen says in the video, this is only one piece of the puzzle of keeping horses motivated. Making sure they are generally happy, willing, calm, and interested has to come first, but even with all those things in place, some horses are simply less responsive to aids. This video can help progress training through those moments.
