In this video, you will see a challenging but potentially powerful exercise to do to increase your horse’s collectibility. It is a simple pattern with a lot of relaxation built into it, but it also requires that you and your horse organize yourselves for collection! You will see a rider play with this pattern for the first time. Her horse demonstrates the very common things a horse may do during it, and you will see the difference when the horse balances himself to be more successful. Because it is a repeated pattern, it gives the horse a chance to try different ways to solve the puzzle and to mentally understand and learn what he needs to do.
This exercise is good for anyone practicing collectibility at the canter, especially those of you wanting to improve walk - canter - walk transitions. This exercise can also be used for more advanced horses where you can focus on refinement and consistent balance throughout. It can also be used and a more foundational exercise for impulsive horses!
