In this video, you will see Karen coach two very differently conformed horses through a similar exercise in order to increase their thoroughness, balance, and power during Medium Trot. Medium Trot is a lengthened trot, but with a more uphill balance than a Lengthening. Both of these horses have a tendency to drop their backs during the Medium Trot, and both riders are new to learning how to sit during the bigger trot. In order to be able to sit the big trot, it is really important that the horse stays balanced with his back up and soft ... And, in order for the horse to stay balanced with a soft back, the rider needs to be able to sit well! :-) In this video I wanted to help them make progress with the quality of the trot so they had something they could then practice sitting.
This exercise connects well to the video 'Smoother Walk to Trot Transitions', as both videos focus on improving thoroughness. The video Smoother Walk To Trot Transitions was filmed the day before this video with the same rider and you will see how much better the trot is the next day.
