Hot Shot and Karen demonstrate a session focused on Collectibility. He is typically a low energy horse and so Karen talks about her strategies to keep him applying effort. He will not appear to be a low energy horse in this video, but that is because these strategies do work! You can search for other past videos with Hot Shot to see how he started as a very balky horse. This video can be an inspiration to anyone with an 'energy economical' horse to show the power that you can get when you maximize motivation and balance! You will see her do half-steps (pre-piaffe), pre-pirouette canter, and Spanish walk leading to passage, as well as stretching, while Karen narrates what she is doing and thinking.
Hot Shot was given to Karen years ago because he was going to be retired at age 7 due to unresolved lameness. Karen has been able to keep him sound, but is acutely aware of the issues he has. Because of this she prioritizes balance and engagement. You will see that she also does allow him to stretch but is mindful to do it when he is working well through his body, so as to minimize extra concussion on his front legs.
This is for horses and students who are already confident in the basics of long lining. Search for Long Lining to see other videos to give you those basics!
