Keeping Rhythm In Walk Yields On Line - March 2023
Lateral Work

7m 21s
In this video, Karen highlights an important aspect of doing yields at the walk, especially when you want to progress them into lateral work. She shows two ways of yielding around a circle on line ... One way creates an almost 2-beat walk rhythm, while the other way preserves the 4-beat rhythm of the walk. There are valuable benefits from either way, but in order to progress to shoulder in and other lateral work, you will want to be aware of this distinction and be able to preserve the rhythm of the walk. What you learn about positioning and angle at the walk will serve you well as you move to the trot and canter. Because rhythm is sometimes harder to feel from the saddle, paying attention to this when on line is a great learning tool.
This video is for anyone doing yields on the ground or in the saddle or learning about lateral work.
